Food Writing

Students tour the Vita Nova kitchen to discuss food safety.

  Students signed up for my 2012 food writing class expecting to do 
restaurant reviews all semester. That is not what they got. We 
interviewed a food photographer and then they had to take pictures 
of a single m&m. We interviewed J.M. Hirsch, the food editor for 
The Associated Press about food trends. And we all reviewed 
cookbooks by making several recipes, and bringing them to class. 
   As a class, we went to a local restaurant, interviewed the chef 
and reviewed the food, and we went on a field trip to Vita Nova, 
UD's student-run restaurant to talk about food safety. 
   Note that this was in 2012, before the rise of Instagram.
