Social Media

Social Media

This was an experimental class I tried in 2012, filled mostly by non-journalism students.  We discussed how social media was changing the way reporters found sources and stories, and issues with verification.  We also discussed how newsrooms were using social media to promote their work, and why sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t.

This was more of an analysis class than a typical journalism class.  We had several Storify assignments, but that platform no longer exists, so I do not have examples of those student assignments.  This class was only taught once.
